The Intelligent Switch Solution (ISS) is a pre-integrated Layer 2 - Layer 3 switch software solution. It facilitates equipment manufacturers to build managed Ethernet switching capabilities in their devices. Its design enables the equipment manufacturers to reduce their development time while allowing them to focus on developing advanced features.
Modular and Extensible Architecture
ISS has a modular architecture that allows the equipment manufacturers to build application specific devices. It offers the flexibility to add, remove and modify modules to suit the requirements. Thus, equipment manufacturers can build a wide range of devices like enterprise Ethernet switches, access concentrators, switchblades, optical switches and metro Ethernet devices.
Easy Management and Configuration
ISS offers easy management through well-designed Web UI and CLI interfaces. Ready-to-use Web UI screens and CLI commands are provided that can be easily customized to suit customer requirements. Tools are also provided for adding new CLI commands and new Web UI screens. ISS can also be managed through an SNMP based manager. It provides SNMP v1/v2c/v3 capabilities and offers extensive MIB support associated with each module. It also offers a secure management interface for the users through a secure http or a secure shell.
Portable Design
ISS offers a portable design that allows rapid integration of the solution with the choice of RTOS, CPU and chipset. The solution is built on an RTOS-abstraction layer (FSAP) that provides porting libraries for popular RTOS like embedded Linux, VxWorks, OSE, etc. A hardware abstraction layer provides well-defined interfaces for rapid integration with the chipset. The Common Forwarding Agent (CFA) Module enables integration of the various modules and provides generic device driver interfaces for integration with the hardware device drivers.
Robust Software
Aricent is focused on providing quality software and documentation. The ISS solution undergoes a comprehensive quality assurance validation that includes protocol component validation, system validation, stress tests and scalability tests. Equipment manufacturers can thus reduce their product development and testing cycle.

ISS is referenced on industry leading switch chipsets, RTOS and CPUs. The ISS leverages on the advanced features of the specific chipsets and is optimized for performance on the hardware platform.
