Aricent RSVP

Email for Info RSVP Support RSVP Feature Sheet

Overview :

The Aricent RSVP software is a portable implementation of RSVP (Resource ReSerVation Protocol) which includes both, the host and router functions.

RSVP is a signaling mechanism that is used by a host on behalf of an application, to request a specific quality of service (QoS) from the network for particular data streams. The actual QoS information carried along the various network elements is however opaque to RSVP, and provisioning of the actual QoS desired is done by the QoS models (such as Integrated Services etc.).

Aricent RSVP Features :

  • RSVP Host functions: APIs for the Reservation Setup conform to the "Reservation Setup API specification (RAPI) [4]" which can be used by applications.

  • Support for host functions, which can be enabled/disabled through SNMP. This feature is especially useful in the case where the hosts in the customer network(s) are not RSVP enabled, and the border/edge router has to initiate resource reservation.

  • Support for both unicast and multicast sessions.
  • Support for all reservation styles: Wildcard Filter (WF), Shared-Explicit (SE) Filter, and the Fixed-Filter (FF) styles.
  • Support for mixing of styles.
  • Support for carrying QoS parameters for IntServ Guaranteed service and IntServ Controlled load sharing service [3]
  • Establishment and maintenance of blockade state (using the ResvError message) to provide a solution for the killer-reservation problems.
  • Appropriate indications to the local traffic control mechanism through merge and policing flags (as defined in [1]).
  • Seamless integration with Aricent IP/RIP products; can be integrated with IP implementations from other vendors as well.
  • Support for standard RSVP MIB along with Proprietary MIB objects for easy control and configuration of RSVP.
  • Support for INTEGRITY & POLICY_DATA objects for authentication and policy control mechanisms.
  • Fully compatible with the Aricent SNMP Agent for Network Management.
  • Conforms to the Future Software Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring a highly portable code, which uses flexible timer and buffer management libraries.

Benefits :

Aricent RSVP is easily ported to various architectures and reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who need to provide resource reservation initiation and signaling of the requested QoS parameters using RSVP.
