Overview :

Aricent RMON (Remote Network Monitor) is a portable implementation of the Remote Network Monitoring conforming to RFC 2819. This software provides remote monitoring of network segments from a central Network Manager. Aricent RMON has an embedded probe that can monitor all the segments to which the network device is connected.

Aricent RMON automates and simplifies the collection of variety of network performance statistics to facilitate remote troubleshooting and network baselining for effective capacity planning and proactive maintenance. Aricent RMON achieves all these objectives without flooding the network with management traffic.

Features :

  • Stores statistics for each monitored interface.
  • Stores the snapshots of statistics periodically for specified interfaces.
  • Generates Alarm when the statistical value of the monitored variable crosses threshold.
  • Stores host specific statistics for hosts found on the interface. Generates report that orders hosts based on a chosen statistic.
  • Stores traffic matrix between hosts found on the interface.
  • Generates/notifies events (which result in trap or/and log) when the Alarm criteria is met for rising/falling threshold.
  • Aricent RMON can be enabled dynamically through the CLI/WebNM/SNMP Interface.
  • Interfaces with the SNMP Agent for configuration of control functions and also for accessing the collected data.
  • Interfaces with Aricent CLI for configuration of control functions and also for accessing collected data for the RMON MIBs via Telnet or Serial Driver.
  • Interfaces with Aricent WebNM for configuration of control functions and also for accessing collected data for the RMON MIBs from a Web Browser.
  • Interfaces with Hardware Drivers for configuration of control functions and also for accessing collected data from the Hardware Device when Hardware Forwarding is enabled.
  • Provides support for Ethernet type of interfaces.
  • Filter and Capture groups will be supported in future version of the software.
  • Conforms to Future Software Architecture for Portability (FSAP 2), thus ensuring highly portable code, which uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.

Benefits :

Aricent RMON reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the RMON functionality into their products. Aricent RMON can be effortlessly integrated with NP based switches, as the required leads from RMON are embedded in the Software.
