Aricent NAT

Email for Info NAT Support NAT Feature Sheet

Overview :

The Aricent NAT (Network Address Translation) software is a portable implementation of the IETF standard RFCs. The software includes additional ALGs (Application Level Gateways) to support different TCP and UDP applications along with other protocols.

Network Address Translation (NAT) provides a mechanism for a privately addressed network to access registered networks, such as the Internet, without requiring a registered subnet address. This eliminates the need for host renumbering and allows the same IP address range to be used in multiple intranets.

With NAT, the privately addressed network (designated as 'inside') continues to use its existing private or obsolete addresses. These addresses are converted into legal addresses before packets are forwarded onto the registered network (designated as 'outside'). The translation is fully compatible with standard routing functionality and features. NAT is required only on the router connecting the inside network to the outside domain.

Features :

  • Performs the basic IP address translation from local IP address to global IP address.
  • Supports NAPT (Network Address Port Translation) IP address Overloading, which is used to share the same global IP address for different local hosts. This conserves the global IP address space to large extent.
  • Supports the following applications: FTP, Telnet, TFTP, NFS, SMTP, ICMP, DNS, HTTP, NTP, IP Multicasting, PPTP, Real Player, NetMeeting and CuSeeMe.
  • Supports all the TCP/UDP applications that require no translation in the packet payload.
  • Static NAT - It establishes a one-to-one permanent address mapping between the inside and registered IP addresses.
  • Static NAPT - It establishes a one-to-one permanent mapping between an inside IP address and an inside port to a registered IP address and a fixed port.
  • Dynamic NAT and NAPT - It establishes a translation from a pool of inside addresses to a pool of registered IP addresses and vice versa. This mapping remains until the corresponding application session closes.
  • Proprietary MIB: NAT is completely configurable using this MIB.
  • Dynamic removal of NAT entries from NAT table.
  • It has features to completely inter operate with Aricent Firewall.
  • Seamless integration through APIs with Aricent IP and Aricent SNMP.
  • Conforms to Future Software Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring a highly portable code that uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.

NAT Benefits :

Aricent NAT reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the address translation functionality into their switching/routing devices. .
