Overview :

Aricent FR-PVC (Frame Relay-Permanent Virtual Connection) software is a portable implementation of the Frame Relay User-to-Network Interface (UNI) specifications. The package includes several additional features to support typical MultiProtocol Routing applications. The implementation is based on FRF.1, FRF.2 and FRF.3 implementation agreements of the Frame Relay Forum (FRF). These are based on various specifications of ITU-T and ANSI.

Features :
  • Provides full support for the core aspects of the Frame Relay Protocol for use with Frame Relay Bearer Service.
  • Provides data transfer over PVCs with 2-, 3- or 4-octet address field formats.
  • Provides congestion handling procedures based on Forward Explicit Congestion Notification (FECN), Backward Explicit Congestion Notification (BECN) and Discard Eligibility (DE) bits. BECNs through Consolidated Link Layer Management (CLLM) are also processed.
  • Provides congestion management as per ITU-T I.370 to detect and report imminent congestion and to handle different levels of congestion in the system.
  • Provides PVC management procedures in accordance with Annex A of ITU-T Q.933 and Annex D of ANSI T1.617 and LMI.
  • Provides the Auto-sensing feature for Dlcmi procedures.
  • Enforcement of Committed Information Rate (CIR) through Rate Metering procedures.
  • Support for multiple status messages if all the PVCs cannot be accommodated in a single status message frame (FRF1.2 Annex A).
  • Option of including the Link Layer Core Parameters (LLCP) and Priority and Service Class Parameters (PSCP) in the status message (FRF1.2 Annex B).
  • Priority levels to prioritize outbound frames based on the DLCI, Interface and protocol priority.
  • Provides the one-way and two-way multicasting service and the MIB support to configure the same
  • Provides the FR broadcast service.
  • Provides flexible and easy-to-adapt interfaces to higher and lower layers.
  • Provides support for Multi-Protocol Interconnect over Frame Relay, in accordance with FRF.3/RFC 1490. This includes support for transportation of X25 traffic (Annex-G of FRF.3).
  • Support for Inverse ARP as per RFC 1293 for IP and IPX packets.
  • Provides complete support for SNMP-based management by implementing the MIB for FR DTEs (RFC 2115).
  • Flexible design resulting in no restrictions on frame sizes.
  • Conforms to Future Software Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring highly portable code, which uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.
Benefits :

Aricent FR-PVC reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the Frame Relay UNI and related functionality into their end nodes, bridges, routers or switches.
