Aricent VLAN Overview :
Aricent VLAN (Virtual LAN) is a complete implementation of Port, tag and MAC-based VLAN software for switched LAN environments. It can be easily integrated with the Aricent TB/STP software for Transparent Bridging with Spanning Tree Algorithm and Protocol (STAP) support.

Aricent VLAN Features:
- Supports different types of tagged VLANs: Shared, Independent, and Hybrid VLANs, as per IEEE 802.1Q.
- Supports Port-based and MAC-based VLANs.
- Supports Ingress and Egress rules that define how to handle incoming and outgoing frames.
- Provides a set of GARP (Generic Attribute Registration Protocol) libraries, which can be used to build GARP applications.
- Supports automatic configuration and management of VLANs by means of GVRP (GARP VLAN Registration Protocol).
- Supports Extended filtering services using GMRP (GARP Multicast Registration Protocol).
- Supports Expedited traffic forwarding, using service classes of multiple levels of priorities.
- Provides interfaces to Transparent Bridge software with STAP support.
- Provides support for easy configuration of VLANs by the Network Administrator using SNMP.
- Exploits the VLAN features, if available in the hardware, for learning and forwarding of VLAN tagged frames.
- Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol, one per VLAN*
- Conforms to Aricent Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring highly portable code, which uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.
Aricent VLAN Benefits:
Aricent VLAN reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the VLAN functionality into their switched-LAN products.
VLANs provide the following key benefits in a switched-LAN environment:
- Improved administration efficiency.
- Controlled Broadcast Activity.
- Enhanced network security.
* Planned for future release.
