Aricent PPP Overview :

The Aricent PPP (Point to Point Protocol) software is a portable implementation of the industry standard RFCs. This software includes several additional features to support typical Multi-Protocol Routing applications over X.25, Frame Relay VCs, ISDN B-Channels, AAL5, Ethernet and HDLC links.

Aricent PPP Features:
  • Supports the Link Control Protocol (LCP) for establishing, configuring, testing and terminating the data link connection.
  • Supports LCP option for internationalization.
  • Encapsulates multi-protocol datagrams over a data link connection.
  • Supports Network Control Protocols (NCPs) like the IPCP, MPLSCP, IPv6CP, MUXCP and the IPXCP.
    - Generic design of NCP reduces the effort involved in implementing additional NCPs.
  • Supports Van Jacobson Header Compression as in RFC 1144.
  • Supports Authentication Protocols - Password Authentication Protocol (PAP), Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP), and Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP).
  • Supports Authentication, Authorization and Accounting using RADIUS.
  • Supports Compression Control Protocol (CCP) and Encryption Control Protocol (ECP).
  • Supports GZIP Compression algorithm in CCP.
  • Supports DESE and Triple-DESE algorithms in ECP.
  • Supports Link Quality Monitoring procedures.
  • Supports Inverse multiplexing (or Aggregating) multiple PPP links over a single bundle to provide a larger bandwidth pipe.
  • Provides dynamic bandwidth allocation/de-allocation for a multilink bundle managed by the BAP/BACP protocols.
  • Supports interface with L2TP for tunneling of IP datagrams.
  • Provides flexible and easy-to-adapt interfaces to higher and lower layers.
  • Provides complete support for SNMP-based management by implementing the MIBs in RFCs 1471, 1472, 1473 and a proprietary MIB for MP/CCP/ECP/PPPoE/MPLSCP/IPv6CP/ MUXCP/IPHC/BCP/BAP-BACP.
  • Conforms to Future Software Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring highly portable code that uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.

Aricent PPP Benefits:

Aricent PPP reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the PPP and MP functionalities into their routers.
