Aricent L2TP Overview :
Aricent L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) software is a portable implementation of the RFC 2661. Aricent L2TP is intended to be used by ISPs and Corporate Gateways for the purpose of extending the functionality of the PPP over an Internet.
Aricent L2TP is used for tunneling of the link layer of PPP (HDLC, Async HDLC) over UDP media. Using such tunnels, the location of the initial dial-up server can be separated from the location at which the dial-up protocol connection is terminated and access to the network provided. The virtual dial-up access thus implemented results in substantial cost-savings for corporate networks.

Figure 1. L2TP Overview
Aricent L2TP Implementation Features:
- Aricent L2TP implements scalable data structures for the Tunnel and Session tables.
- Aricent L2TP design/implementation is highly optimized for performance.
- Extensive support for debug/tracing.
- Segregates external interfaces from core protocol reduces porting effort.
- Easy integration with third party software supported on the target environment.
- Supports seamless integration with Aricent PPP, Aricent SNMP and Aricent CFA
- Provides complete support for SNMP-based management by implementing the MIBs in the. MIB specifications (Draft-ietf-pppext-l2tp-mib-01.txt).
- Conforms to Aricent Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring highly portable code which uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.
Aricent L2TP Security Features:
- Creates Tunnel and Session ids randomly to avoid the malicious replay attacks.
- Supports extensive accounting information at the System / Tunnel / Session levels.
Product Features:
- The system can be configured to perform as LAC/LNS/both.
- Tunnel level configuration for LAC and LNS.
- Supports both static and dynamic creation of tunnels.
- Supports both incoming and outgoing calls in the same tunnel.
- Supports Tunnel Authentication, AVP Hiding/ Unhiding.
- Supports Proxy LCP and Partial authentication.
- Supports dynamic enabling/disabling of sequencing for data sessions.
- Supports voluntary tunnelling. For a LAN-attached PC, the client already has a connection to the internetwork that can provide routing of encapsulated payloads to the chosen LAN tunnel server.
Aricent L2TP Benefits:
Aricent L2TP reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the L2TP functionality into their devices.
