  • On-site requirement analysis and architecture arrival.

Case Study 3 - Multi Protocol Router (MPR)
Customer
  • A major communication equipment manufacturer in the United States
Requirement
  • Recommend and develop the feature set for the customer’s routers to enable the customer to enter the emerging router segment as an extension of the customer’s WAN products and enterprise networking solution offerings.
Solution Framework

  • Conducting a market survey, identifying available routers and their features.
  • Recommending the feature set for the customer’s routers
  • Software development and porting of certain protocol source code baselines licensed from third-party vendors and us.
  • Integration, performance engineering, interoperability with other market products and reliability engineering.
  • Software developed for various versions of the router in terms of hardware interface. For instance, the Company developed a device with SNA connectivity options in the router.
  • Customer simultaneously developed the router hardware based on Intel I960 processor and a VxWorks operating system.
  • Router developed supported various LAN protocols, and WAN interfaces and was manageable through SNMP.

  • Customer was able to enter the emerging router segment despite lack of prior in-house experience in the router segment.

Case Study 5 - ATM switch platform

Chip manufacturer in the United States

Requirement

  • Jointly design a software platform integrated closely with chipsets providing ATM services to applications in order to provide complete building block for an ATM network
Solution Framework
  • ATM switch built using our UNI, PNNI and ILMI protocol stacks already developed by us
  • Integrating of the ATM switch into the customer's hardware and device drivers.
  • In addition to ATM signaling interface, the product also had integrated ATM applications like LANE, which gave a second interface point to build ATM application systems.
  • The entire system was managed with SNMP V1 and V2 interfaces.

Integrated offering was attractive for OEMs designing new ATM access/switching network equipment since they could use the chipset and the software platform in their targets and only needed to develop the application components above the ATM service platform.

Requirement Development of a PNNI protocol based system (for handling routing of several hundred nodes in an hierarchical ATM network).

Solution Framework

  • Building on our existing experience with ATM, Signaling and Routing technologies, we initiated development of a PNNI protocol based system (for handling routing of several hundred nodes in an hierarchical ATM network).
  • The development and testing of this protocol stack involved significant challenges due to its complexity as well as concerns relating to scalability and stability
  • Extensive simulation and test workbenches specifically developed for this purpose.

Case Study 11 -SS7 enhancements

A major Asian communication equipment manufacturer.

Requirement

  • Develop a new system with additional interfaces and support for SS7 signalling components.
Solution Framework

  • Components of our SS7 protocol suite suitable for requirements used.
  • Porting of the protocols onto the new system.
  • The MFR-R2 signalling present in the old system also ported to the new system.
  • Interworking between the old and the new systems had to be validated in order to permit the customer to demonstrate the SS7 interface to a PTT Operator in a very short time frame.

  • Implementation of a fully operational Wireless and ATM integrated network solution (25 Mbps shared bandwidth) for the customer.
  • Licensing and extensive use of our ATM routing/routing stacks and certain proprietary extensions to handle mobility.
  • Post primary delivery in January 1999, support for field trials at the customer's end-user sites in the United States and Europe.

Case Study 13 - Wireless LAN
Customer

A major telecommunication equipment manufacturer in the United States.

Requirement:

  • Security features for an IEEE 802.11 based product developed by customer for wireless LAN access inside an office or corporate environment.
The customer wanted to make a wireless LAN product by using PPP over Ethernet, which would provide secure connectivity for Wireless networks in public places such as airports, hotels and convention centres.

Solution Framework

  • Initially developed a quick prototype, which was deployed successfully at a community in North America in mid-1999 in order to demonstrate proof of concept.
  • Subsequently, software for the full-featured 11 Mbps shared bandwidth product implemented.
  • Client component of the product, residing in laptops/desktops and access server functionalities including support for roaming developed.
  • Licensing and porting of PPP and RADIUS Client software products on the Server component.

Case Study 14 - Network Management System (NMS)

A leading German network integrator.

Requirement

  • Develop network management software to configure, control and monitor all customer's ISDN connectivity products.
  • Customer leveraged the resources provided by us in the Dedicated Facility to develop network management software to configure, control and monitor all ISDN connectivity products.
  • Creating an application that was portable across a variety of platforms including Windows 95, HP OpenView and IBS Netview. The package uses zAPP classes for this development.
  • Module also had features to upload, download & distribute configuration and binary images of the software.
