Case Study 1 - ATM switch platform
We and a chip manufacturer in the United States, jointly designed a software platform integrated closely with chipsets providing ATM services to the applications above in order to provide the complete building block for an ATM network. We built the ATM switch using its UNI, PNNI and ILMI protocol stacks already developed by us and integrated it into the customer's hardware and device drivers. This integrated offering was attractive for OEMs designing new ATM access/switching network equipment since they could use the chipset and the software platform in their targets and only needed to develop the application components above the ATM service platform. In addition to ATM signaling interface, the product also has integrated ATM applications like LANE, which gave a second interface point to build ATM application systems. The entire system was managed with SNMP V1 and V2 interfaces.
Building on our existing experience with ATM, Signaling and Routing technologies, we initiated development of a PNNI protocol based system(for handling routing of several hundred nodes in an hierarchical ATM network). The development and testing of this protocol stack involved significant challenges due to its complexity as well as concerns relating to scalability and stability. Extensive simulation and test workbenches had to be specifically developed for this purpose.
Case Study 2 - PNNI product development
Building on its existing experience with ATM, Signaling and Routing technologies, we initiated development of a PNNI protocol (for handling routing of several hundred nodes in an hierarchical ATM network). The development and testing of this protocol stack involved significant challenges due to its complexity as well as concerns relating to scalability and stability. Extensive simulation and test work-benches had to be specifically developed for this purpose.
