BGP4 / BGP4+

Email for Info Support Feature Sheet

Overview :

Aricent BGP4 (Border Gateway Protocol) software is a portable implementation of the BGP Version-4 related RFCs.

Aricent BGP4 exchanges network reachability information with other BGP systems. This information helps in constructing graphs of the AS so that routing loops can be detected. Intelligent routing decisions can be taken based on policies like Multi Exit Discriminator/Local Preference. The software includes support for interaction with IGP and classless inter-domain routing.

Features:
  • Supports the Border Gateway Protocol Version as specified in RFC 1771.
  • For exchanging network reachability information using messages like update and keep-alive.
  • Supports an optional attribute like the multi-exit discriminator to discriminate among multiple exit or entry points to the same neighboring
  • Supports implementation recommendations like Path attribute ordering.
  • Provides flexible and easy-to-adapt interfaces with higher and lower layers.
  • Supports redistribution of static routes and routes learnt through RIP and OSPF.
  • Provides complete support for SNMP-based management by implementing the MIBs as specified in RFC 1657(excluding SNMP Trap related objects) with Aricent's Proprietary Extensions.
  • Conforms to Future Software Architecture for Portability (FSAP2), thus ensuring highly portable code that uses flexible buffer and timer management libraries.
  • Supports the Route Reflection feature to reduce the scaling problem that results due to full mesh IBGP connectivity within an AS.
  • Supports the Route Flap Dampening feature for handling route oscillations arising out of frequent route-flap of unstable routes.
  • Supports the Community Attribute feature for controlling route-distribution to BGP peers based on the community-value, which allows grouping of routes that share some common properties.
  • Supports the Extended Community Attribute feature to provide an extended range and to allow the usage of policy based on the application for which the community value will be used.
  • Supports the Capabilities Advertisement with BGP-4 feature for advertising the supported capabilities.
  • Supports Route Refresh Capability, which allows the dynamic exchange of route refresh request between BGP speakers and the subsequent re-advertisement of the respective Adj-RIB-Out.
  • Supports Autonomous Systems Confederation that alleviates the need for full mesh inside an AS by dividing the AS into multiple ASs and advertises as a single AS number to BGP speakers that are not members of the confederation.
  • Supports TCP MD5 Signature Option that allows BGP to protect itself against the introduction of spoofed TCP segments into the connection stream.
  • Supports Multiprotocol Extensions that allows BGP to distribute routes with different address families as specified in RFC 2858.
  • Supports IPv6 Inter-Domain routing using Multiprotocol Extensions feature as specified in RFC 2545.
  • Provides Mib support for the following features - Route-Reflection, Community Attribute support, Extended Community Attribute support, Route-Flap Dampening, Capabilities Advertisement Support, Route Refresh Capability support, AS Confederation Support, and TCP MD5 Authentication Support.
Benefits:

Aricent BGP4 reduces the time to market for OEMs and VARs who wish to incorporate the BGP functionality into their routers.
